St Andy’s Preparatory School holds Speech Day

Mrs Dinah Osam-Tewiah, Private Schools Co-ordinator of Adenta Municipal Education Directorate, has called on teachers to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may bring the teaching profession into disrepute.

She said absenteeism, alcoholism and lateness to classes, were some of the factors that contributed to the falling standards of education.

Mrs Osam-Tewiah made the call at the Speech, Prize-Giving and Graduation of St Andy’s Preparatory School at Ashiyie, near Madina.

It was on the theme: “Are there challenges in the Delivery of Basic Education Certificate Examination in the Country?’

Mrs Osam-Tewiah said as a teacher, you should do everything possible to ensure that you delivered excellence tuition at all times.

She also charged parents to supervise the education of their wards, by providing them with their basic needs.

Mrs Osam Tewiah appealed to parents to desist from watching television with their wards, and pay their fees promptly for quality tuition.

The Most Reverend Dr Samuel Asante Antwi, who chaired the function, urged students to draw closer to God in order to succeed in life, instead of resorting to foul means to pass examinations.

He said there was no human endeavour that could succeed without the help of God, and urged them to be serious in their studies.

Mr Maxwell Addo, Director of the School, said a new floor with a capacity of eight classrooms was added to the school’s main block to enhance effective teaching and learning.

He said last year the school faced some challenges including the roofing of the main block which was blown off by a windstorm.

He said the school would continue to maintain discipline to improve the quality of education to make the school more competitive and the preferred choice for parents.

Mr Peter Atsugah, Headmaster of the school, said despite the challenges the school faced, it managed to perform creditably in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.

He expressed the hope that the school’s performance would be improved in the ensuing years, as some stringent measures were being put in place.

Staff and students who excelled last year, were presented with some gifts and certificates
