Sports fiesta to commemorate Golden Jubilee

Wa, (U/W) March 13, GNA - About ten youth groups in the Wa Municipality have held a sports fiesta as part of activities to commemorate the year-long Golden Jubilee celebration of the country's independence.

The participants engaged in such games as draughts, ludo, cards, ampe, tug of war, table tennis and volleyball during the fiesta, which was organized by the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in collaboration with the National Youth Council.

Mr Mohammed Sidik, Upper West Regional Coordinator of the NYEP in an address said the event was organized to bring the people especially the youth together irrespective of their political and other differences to as fraternize and share ideas to promote unity.

He said the celebrations had been a major success and forged national unity and it should be an occasion for bringing all people irrespective of their political affiliation to appreciate that the Ghana belongs to all and it was for all therefore to rejoice and join in the celebrations.

Mr Sidik advised the participants to display discipline and sportsmanship as they compete in the various sporting activities and make sure that no unhealthy rivalry was recorded.
