Sporting activities organized to usher in People's Assembly

Sunyani, B/A Jan. 3, GNA - Personnel of the Brong-Ahafo Regional office of the Ghana Fire Service on Saturday beat their Sunyani Municipal Assembly male counterparts 2-1 to win a special football match at the Sunyani Coronation stadium.

The fun games forms part of a number of activities outlined by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to ensure massive participation at the upcoming national People's Assembly to be held at the Christ the King Parish hall in Sunyani on Tuesday, January 16. The Fire Service women's team also spanked the Regional Police women's team 3-0.

The activities includes a Press Soiree, Muslim and Christian prayers with a free musical concert organized to herald the event on Saturday in Sunyani.

Other participating groups of the games included the Military, Nurses, Market women, Hairdressers and Dressmakers.

The military team emerged winners of the tug-of-war event. Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister in a welcome address urged the participating groups to exhibit a sense of maturity to ensure that the games ended in a peaceful environment. He said the activities aims at encouraging 93more people in the region, particularly the Municipality to attend the People's Assembly".

Mr. Frank Agyekum, Government Spokesperson on Governance later presented certificates of merit to the participating institutions.
