Spiritualists asked to desist from creating divisions in society.

Kumasi, Aug 24, GNA - Dr Amen Bonsu, Medical Officer in-charge of Amen Scientific Herbal Clinic in Kumasi, has said that the practice of some spiritualists attributing the causes of certain illness to family members and relatives must be stopped.

He said the practice is causing many problems within families and among relatives and more importantly, it has led to the development of certain strange diseases in such people due to the fear put in them. Speaking to the GNA on "Medicine and People" in Kumasi at the weekend, Dr Bonsu regretted that these spiritualists, who divulge these false information to patients brought to them are unable to cure them. He pointed out that it was also not good to ask patients to fast without knowing the real cause of the illness, adding that, this could even cause the death of the patient.

He said it is good for people to fast and pray when seeking treatment but it is crucial that he or she consults a medical doctor for advice.

Dr Bonsu advised people to refrain from seeing quack doctors and self-medication and attend clinics when they are sick.
