Solomon Bennet School Gets E-Learning Center

The Proprietress of the Solomon Bennet Memorial School in Sunyani, Ms Grace Sheilla Bennet, has urged parents to invest their children's education to safeguard their future to enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of the nation. She also called for comprehensive programmes on the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology in schools to ensure that Ghanaian students excel in the area of information technology.

Ms Bennet, who said this during the launching of a ¢452 million E- Learning Center for the school, with the support of E-Toys And More, noted that the world has become a global village and only students with adequate knowledge in information technology can make it to the highest level in their chosen professions.

An E-Learning Center comprises of state of the art multimedia computers loaded with powerful educational software, a digital library, multimedia kids computers, educational games and puzzles, electronic educational toys, e-books, interactive video, learning resources, as well as the E-school administrator software for school management and administration.

She therefore urged students to take information communication lessons serious to enable them make positive impacts in their communities and the nation at large. The proprietress noted that at the center, children have access to powerful educational resources that will stimulate creativity, ignite their imagination and build their confidence as well as develop strong IT skills in them.

The Executive president of E-Toys And More, Mr. George Sackey Jnr., commended the school for investing the e-learning center since it would facilitate the process of bridging the technological gap between the developing and the developed world.

He stressed that education is currently undergoing a global transformation from the traditional stage to the modern technology era and that every effort must be made to enhance the study of information communication technology in the country.

Mr Sackey said E-Toys and More is a company that distributes children’s interactive educational products to schools to meet the educational needs of children with growing technology.

The Sunyani Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Fosu Gyeabour, who chaired the function, urged parents and school management teams to put in place adequate measures to create the enabling environment for students to learn.

He added that government alone can not provide for all the needs of schools and therefore called on individuals and organisations to assist government in providing quality education for children.

The Municipal Education Director commended the management of Solomon Bennette Memorial School for setting up the e-learning center and urged other schools in the municipality to emulate the example.

The Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Abraham Kwadwo Kwaakye, urged parents and guardians to pay great attention to the education of their children to make them responsible citizens in the future. He also advised the students to put the e-learning center to good use.

At the same event, the school's sign post valued at ¢5 million and donated by E-Toys And More, was unveiled while Sir Charles Bookshop donated 50 Longman dictionaries to the school.
