Solar Rural Electrification Gets a Boost

Isofonton, a solar PV producer from Spain, is aimed at supplying electricity to more than 6,000 people through the design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of more than 2,500 solar PV systems around various regions in the country under the Solar Rural Electrification Phase two estimated to cost $15 million.

Isofonton which is participating in the ninth international trade fair currently going on at the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra, is the only company that offers the technological products of solar energy applications including thermal and photovoltaic and is currently in 19 countries in Africa and 50 countries worldwide.

In an interview with the Business Chronicle, the Sales Manager for Asia, Africa and Middle East, Carlos Martinez Garcia said the company was currently in the process of installing over 2000 solar home systems, 30 schools, 10 battery charging stations, five water pumping and irrigation systems under the phase two of the solar rural electrification.

14 health centers, 12 community centres and 200 public light systems would also be fitted with solar energy panels. " That is the only project in Africa that is developed in this way".

He said that with the abundance of sunlight, the country could harvest and utilize the solar PV system to the fullest.

Talking about the company's products on show, he said most of the products had been designed to stand the tropical environment.

"We have a very good capacity for it."

In terms of price, he said they were very competitive and it also depended on the project that a customer was pursuing.
