Social inclusion, peace key to development - Salaga South MP

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, emphasised the importance of social inclusion and unity for peaceful coexistence and sustainable development during her address at the 2025 Damba Festival in Salaga.

The festival, which celebrates Dagbon, showcased the rich cultural heritage and fostered community cohesion among the people of Dagbon and its associated kingdoms.

In her speech, Zuwera Ibrahimah outlined the government’s commitment under President John Dramani Mahama to transform Ghana through initiatives focused on women’s empowerment, youth development, agriculture, healthcare, and education.

She announced a $2 billion agricultural and agro-industrial project in East Gonja, expected to create over 10,000 jobs and irrigate 200,000 hectares of land for year-round cultivation, boosting economic activity in the region.

Education was a key focus, with the launch of the Chief H.B. Braimah Education Fund aimed at improving school infrastructure, supporting needy students, and promoting academic excellence. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader developmental agenda to ensure equitable access to education.

The MP also highlighted plans for an aggressive road infrastructure development programme to connect communities and stimulate economic growth in Salaga South. On healthcare and sanitation, she noted ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery, including the resumption of work on the uncompleted Salaga Municipal Hospital, alongside initiatives to improve access to clean water and sanitation.

The MP underscored partnerships with Russian stakeholders, including student roadshows and a sister-city relationship with Novosibirsk, to advance access to water, STEM education, healthcare, and agriculture. She further detailed initiatives such as the Education, Youth, and Women Empowerment Funds, designed to uplift communities and ensure inclusive development.
