Social Court Robbery

Sunyani July 10 GNA - The Sunyani High Court presided over by Justice Francis Kusi-Appiah on Tuesday sentenced Ali Adams, a Burkinabe to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for robbery. He pleaded not guilty but was found guilty by a unanimous decision of a seven-member jury.

Mr Cab-Beyuo, Brong Ahafo Regional State Attorney told the court that the accused arrived at Techiman on October 19, 2000 from Burkina Faso and lodged at Atomic Hotel. He said the accused hired the service of Anne Banabas, a taxi driver to send him to Kintampo that very day to transact his timber business.

As they were returning to Techiman from Kintampo the driver at a spot slowed down to avoid a pothole and the accused took advantage of that and ordered the driver to stop. Mr Cab-Beyuo said the accused fired a warning shot, bundled the driver out of the vehicle and drove the vehicle towards Techiman. He said the accused was arrested at his hideout at the same hotel when he was about to check out and the vehicle was later found at a vulcanizer's shop at Techiman.
