Sibi gets new kindergarten

Sibi (V/R), Nov. 16, GNA - Mr Joseph Denteh, the Nkwanta District Chief Executive, had urged the people of Nkwanta North to be patient as the government was committed to providing them with good drinking water, electricity and to improve their roads. Speaking at Sibi to commission a two-unit classroom, a store and an office for Sibi Jato Kprakpra Kindergarten built by Women and Development Project (WADEP), a local non-governmental organisation in Nkwanta, he said funds had been sourced to pump water from Damanko to all major towns. He said fire tenders would supply water from Damanko in January when all the rivers dry up.

Mr Denteh said the government was bent on extending electricity to the area and an additional 200 low-tension poles had been provided. Ms Janet Amewu, the acting Coordinator of WADEP, said the NGO started an adult literacy programme in 2001 in the community but due to water problems during the dry season the adults opted out for the education of their children instead. She said WADEP supplied the makeshift classroom with fifteen desks and benches to support the efforts of the community members until CORAID, the financial partner of the NGO, provided funds for the construction of the kindergarten at the cost of 100 million cedis.
