A tragic incident has struck the Kasotie community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, where a galamsey (illegal mining) pit collapsed, killing seven people.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Wednesday October 1, 2025, leaving ten others with varying degrees of injuries.
The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Mpasaaso Government Hospital.
Personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the security services are on the scene, working around the clock to locate and rescue any other individuals who may still be trapped beneath the debris.
It is believed that a total of fifteen people were involved in the illegal mining expedition.
The situation remains tense as families and residents gather, hoping for positive news about their missing loved ones.
As rescue operations continue, the Kasotie community remains in shock and mourning.
