Senior citizens urged to share experience on governance

Sekondi, July 2, GNA - Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, on Tuesday called on senior citizens to share their rich experiences on governance to enrich the country's democratic process. He said senior citizens should make it their obligation to share their experiences so that future generation would not repeat mistakes of the past.

"Ghana has come a long way since independence 51 years ago and her achievements must be consolidated and improved upon," he added. Mr Amoah made the call at a luncheon organised by Western Regional Coordinating Council for 200 senior citizens at Sekondi. He called for unity in the Region to take advantage of the revenue from the oil find to develop the area.

Mr Kwesi Blay, Deputy Western Regional Minister, appealed to chiefs from Ahanta and Nzema Traditional Areas to refrain from any litigation over the location of the oil find.

Six senior citizens were honoured for their contribution towards development of the Region.

They were Dr Justice Addison, an industrialist, Dr Francis Percy Ocran, a Surgeon, Nana Kofi Abuna V, Chief of Essipong, Mr Alfred Cudjoe, an educationist, Madam Marian Andoh-Kesson, an educationist and Mr Edward Acquah, a footballer.

Madam Andoh-Kesson, on behalf of the recipients, advised public and civil servants to be committed to their work to enable government achieve its targets and improve living standards.
