Senior Military Officer Regrets

Past Instances When The Military Was Used To Settle Personal Scores.

The Commanding Officer of the 3rd battalion of infantry here in Sunyani Lieutenant Colonel Alhassan Abu has described as regrettable instances in the country?s history when the military was used to settle personal scores.

This situation the officer noted was so bad that Civilian-Military relations suffered enormously because officers and men stepped beyond professional boundaries and manhandled civilians.

Lieutenant colonel Abu restated the commitment of the military to constitutional democracy.

He said constitutional rule is the only guaranteed medium through which the National development could be effectively achieved.

The commanding officer, who was speaking to space fm on the improved civilian?s military relation in the country after 47 years of independence, said ironically soldiers have also suffered under past military regime and would therefore not repeat the mistake of supporting the overthrow of the constitutional democracy.
