Seminary sets up Centre to link theology

....to people's living situations

Abuakwa, (Ash.) Nov. 7, GNA - The Ghana Baptist Theological Seminary is setting up a Centre for Community and Human Resource Development to effectively link theology to people's living situations. The Reverend George Solomon Mallet, the Principal of the Seminary, who made this known, said the Centre would link up with churches, church and community leaders to build their capacities so that they could carry out their various tasks to improve the lives of the people. He was addressing the 35th Graduation Ceremony held for 21 students, who had successfully completed various programmes of study at Abuakwa on Saturday.

The Reverend Mallet said it was time a more holistic approach was developed for the church's ministry. He announced that, in addition to the National Accreditation Board's recognition the Seminary received last year, it has also been recognised by the Accreditation Council for Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA).

He said it has attained what the Council refers to as "Candidacy Status". "This means that the academic credentials of all our graduates will be accepted as valid by ACTEA and all schools affiliated to it".

The Principal said they would now have to put together a Self-Evaluation Report to ensure that the school attains Full Accreditation Status of the Council.

The Reverend Mallet said they have received 40 computers and their accessories from the United Kingdom (UK) as well as other donations towards the Internet connectivity to the library and the offices of the Seminary.

"We hope that before the end of the year we will be able to link both the library and faculty offices with Internet facilities". The Principal noted that one major admission problem of the Seminary was its inability to attract females and said for the first time in many years it admitted five female students last year. Dr. Eugene Walter Verner, a Missionary, told the graduands to adhere to the principles of Jesus and avoid the inordinate lust for material things. GNA
