Sekondi-Takoradi ignites with jubilation

Takoradi, June 22, GNA - A jubilant crowd this evening thronged the principal streets within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in celebration of Ghana's defeat of the USA in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Germany on Thursday.

The crowd made up of children and the elderly and several young men composed songs in honour of the players and danced their way through various communities.

At Effia and Effiakuma Zongo, the jubilant supporters took over the entire streets in a carnival and made movement of vehicles very difficult.

They were joined at various points by other supporters of the Black Stars including taxi, commercial and private drivers. Motor riders were not left out of the jubilation and the entire township was filled with the national colours and paraphernalia of the Black Stars.

At Amanful, near Takoradi, which is the home of masquerades, some of the groups joined with their brass band and played music to cheer the enthusiastic crowd.

Some music shops added spice to the celebrations, as they continued to play songs composed by the Supporters Union of Ghana (SUGHA). Already some drinking spots in the metropolis were full of revellers dancing and drinking at the same time.
