School proprietors advised to establish Secondary Schools

Kumasi, Aug.9, GNA- Proprietors of private schools have been advised not to limit themselves only to basic education, but also establish secondary schools to ensure continuity of education for pupils.

Reverend Dr (Mrs) Christiana Darko, Founder and Director of the Oasis Christian Academy, said apart from providing pupils the opportunity to attain education to secondary level, it will also help minimise the problem of large number of JSS graduates seeking admission to few secondary schools.

She was speaking at the Fourth Graduation ceremony of the Oasis Christian Academy held at Ahodwo, Kumasi on Friday, for 45 of its kindergarten pupils.

The Academy, which was established in 1999 and funded by Rev. Dr. Darko, is currently made up of a kindergarten and primary school. She said in recognition of the merit of continuing education under the same environment, the Oasis Christian Academy, had already embarked on a programme for the establishment of a Junior Secondary School (JSS) and a Senior Secondary School (SSS), to absorb pupils from the primary level.

She disabused the minds of a section of the public that the school was purely a Christian school and offers no admission to non-Christians.

Rev. Dr. Darko said even though the school instils in pupils sound Christian values and apply Christian principles to train them and that admissions are opened to pupils of all religious backgrounds.
