School holds fund raising ceremony

Accra, Dec. 20, GNA, Mr. Samuel Nangwa, Deputy District Director of Social Welfare has, on Saturday said, providing emotional needs of children was as important as clothing them and giving them good education.

He said, the situation where parents dump their children at day care centres and go for them in the night was unacceptable. Mr. Nangwa was speaking at the fund raising ceremony of Ontenyi Memorial International School at Glefe near Accra.

He said, parents should devote much attention to their children, assist them in their assignments and pay regular visit to the schools to monitor the progress of their children.

"It is only if there is harmonious cooperation between parents and teachers that we can succeed as a people in designing the minds of our children to become engineers, doctors and lawyers,"he stressed. Mr. Nangwa called on the government to provide the Social Welfare Department with the necessary logistics to educate the public on the essence of education.

Mr.Bright Assah the assembly member for New Mamprobi said, since education was the bedrock of development, there was the need to do all we can to acquire it.

Mr. Assah called on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to assist the assembly members for the efficient execution of the decentralization process.

Mr. James Kwame Forson, proprietor of the school said, the school, which was established last year was community friendly, in that the fees were affordable.

He said, there was no arbitrary increase in fees since, fee negotiation was always between him the proprietor and Parent Teacher Association.

The Assembly Member for the area Mr. Abednego Tettey Tetteh, who chaired the function asked parents to take good care of their children to enable them to become useful citizens.
