School children banned from attending wake-keeping

Adoagyiri, March 28, GNA - Nana Afutu Dompreh II, Chief of Adoagyiri, near Nsawam, has banned school children of the town from watching video films at commercial cinema houses and attending wake-keeping. The measure, he said, was to ensure that the children stuck to their books, and also a step to check immorality.

Nana Dompreh, who is also the Ankobeahene of Akim Kotoku Traditional Area made the call during the annual Akwasidae festival of the chiefs and people of Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region. He urged the people to make the education of their children a priority, rather than buying expensive clothes. Their resources, the chief said, should be used to support their children's education to facilitate their learning so that they would become more useful in the future.

He said children were the future leaders, and proper care needed to be taken of them, so that they would be properly developed to take their rightful places in the nation's future development. Nana Dompreh announced that an Education Trust Fund would be launched soon to support brilliant but needy children through their schooling.
