School boards asked to provide sound education for students

Koforidua, Feb. 25, GNA- Members of the various academic boards in the country, have been called upon to promote sound academic, moral and spiritual education in schools and strive to make education affordable to all.

The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ewura-Abena Ahwoi made the call when she inaugurated a 15-member Board of Governors for the Pope John Secondary School and Junior Seminary at Effiduase-Koforidua on Friday.

Mrs Ahwoi urged the Board to encourage awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS among the students to curb the spread of the pandemic. She asked the teachers to revise their teaching methods more often to improve upon their output.

The chairman of the out-going Board, Mr Augustine Adu-Amankwah said the school did not experience student's unrests during the almost nine-years of Board's tenure due to the high level of discipline among students.

The Headmaster of the School, Mr Paul Ofori-Atta urged the new Board to arrest the school's dwindling academic performance and help to provide a new school bus and complete an assembly and dinning hall complex started 30 years ago. 25 Feb.05
