Sanitary facilities at Volta Fair overstretched

Ho, Nov. 25, GNA - Sanitary facilities at the Volta Trade, Investment and Culture fair in Ho are over stretched, some Exhibitors told the Ghana News Agency.

They said the few toilets at the Jubilee Park where the fair is being held are overstretched, compelling people to take to urinating anywhere around the fair grounds.

An Exhibitor told the Ghana News Agency that the Zoomlion Company limited has been doing well to keep the toilets clean but the facilities could just not cope with the sheer numbers. Some of them acknowledged that the venue was not made for trade fairs unlike the Ghana International Trade fair grounds in Accra but suggested that in future mobile toilets and urinals should be provided to augment the existing sanitary facilities.

A number of exhibitors in the Tent pavilion complained of excessive heat in the afternoon, compelling them to move into the open for fresh air. Some of the exhibitors who spoke to the Ghana News Agency commended the level of security provided at the fair grounds during the day and at night. "We come back in the morning to find our wares intact", one of them told the GNA.

While the fair ground is always well lit in the night, the stretch of road from the Ring road end to the SSNIT Flats junction where the fair ground is situated was in darkness, especially on Wednesday, when the GNA visited. The darkness on that stretch of road has been accentuated at some spots by pockets of overgrown grass and trees lining the road. 25 Nov. 10
