Ossie Duran Wins C'wealth Title

Ghana?s Commonwealth welterweight title-holder Ossie Duran added the Commonwealth light-middleweight champion belt to his collection when he stopped England?s Jamie Moore in the third round, at the King's Hall in Belfast on Saturday.

Moore had the Commonwealth light-middleweight title ripped from his grasp by hard-hitting Duran, who uncorked a sweeping right hand which had Moore out on his feet.

Referee Richie Davies immediately stepped in at one minute six seconds as Duran drove forward and attempted to tag Moore with another right hand as he sagged against the ropes.

Duran's upset victory leaves Moore's future European and world title ambitions in tatters.

There was no hint of such a shock in an opening quiet round, though in the second Moore found himself being caught by Duran's clubbing blows and seemed to suffer a twisted ankle as he stumbled over midway through the round.

Duran entered the ring as the Commonwealth welterweight champion but is now expected to campaign at light-middleweight.

It later transpired that Moore had suffered a freak hip injury which curtailed his movement, leaving him open to Duran's assault's.

Afterwards Duran said: "I want Takaloo now or one of the really big names like Vernon Forrest or Shane Mosley."
