The 41st National Farmers’ Day celebration in the Salaga South Municipality shifted beyond the usual commendation of farmers, becoming a platform for addressing key development concerns as the NDC Constituency Chairman, Haruna Abdul Aziz, delivered a message on behalf of the Member of Parliament, Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah.
While acknowledging the critical role farmers play in Ghana’s economy, the MP’s message, delivered by the constituency chairman highlighted a growing sentiment among residents: appreciation alone is not enough. Farmers, the message emphasized, need stronger infrastructural support and deliberate investment to sustain their contributions.
Abdul Aziz noted that the Farmers’ Day initiative “has broader national implications, including curbing rising food inflation, promoting youth participation in agriculture and boosting agri-industrial growth.”
He urged locals to leverage these national programmes to expand their own economic activities.

A key focus of the address was the persistent challenge of poor road infrastructure, which continues to undermine agricultural productivity in the municipality.
Farmers and community members have frequently decried the high cost of transporting goods and the losses incurred due to inaccessible routes.
Responding to these concerns, Abdul Aziz announced progress on several long-demanded road projects.
He confirmed the completion of the Salaga–Kafaba road and the Kitoe Nkwanta–Kitoe road, noting that these improvements are expected to enhance the movement of goods and reduce post-harvest losses.
Work is also progressing on the Nguan Mallam–Kupi road, with the MP’s office promising steady oversight to ensure timely completion.
“These targeted interventions are meant to open up our local economy and relieve farmers of the burden of transporting produce on deteriorated roads,” he explained.
Beyond agriculture, residents used the Farmers’ Day platform to raise concerns about lingering community development challenges most notably the unfinished Kwuani community centre, which has stalled for years.
Addressing the issue, the constituency chairman reassured residents that the MP had already initiated steps for work to resume.
He added, “By the grace of Allah, construction will begin soon so the facility can finally serve its purpose.”
The Farmers’ Day celebration revealed increased expectations from the public for stronger accountability and faster delivery of development projects. While the MP’s message reaffirmed her commitment to agricultural and infrastructure development, residents made it clear they expect visible progress, not just pledges.
