SSNIT organizes forum on pension scheme

Keta (V/R), Mar. 12, GNA-A public forum organised by SSNIT for employers, heads of departments, organisations and schools from the Keta and Akatsi districts on the SSNIT pension scheme took place at Keta on Thursday.

Mr. Jonathan Cato, Deputy Director of the Public Affairs Department of the Trust said SSNIT, has now got a new image as a result of the implementation of a strategic plan spanning 2003-2007 to improve the services of the Trust.

He said under the plan new structures would be developed to promote the efficiency and service delivery machinery of the Trust.

Mr. Cato appealed to employees not to connive and condone with employers to under declare their contributions to the Trust, a practice, which would affect them negatively in the future, in the form of retirement benefits.

Miss Ajoa Abebrese, Tema Habour District Manager of the Trust disclosed that an exercise to collate statistics on contributors with age 54 and above was going on to straighten their records to make it easy for them to access their claims when they retire.

She appealed to employers to cooperate with SSNIT Verification Inspectors so that problems of contributors could be cleared in time before retirement.

Participants expressed dissatisfaction with the quantum of benefits under the SSNIT scheme as against Cap 30 and called for a review of the Social Security Law 247 of 1991 to meet the expectations of contributors. 12 Mar 04
