SHS girls schooled on effects of cyber fraud

All the 38 headmistresses of girls' senior high schools in the country and 600 selected female students from have ended their 7th annual forum dubbed “summer camp” at Ho.

The one-week forum under the theme: “the cyber fraud menace” attracted 15 selected senior high schools across the Volta Region since it offered them the needed platform to discuss issues on qualities of leadership in women, women uprightness and self-discipline.

FOHGSHS, the Forum of Heads of Girls Senior High Schools, was born out of a concern for the peculiar challenges pertaining to girls’ education at the second cycle level in the country.

In view of this, heads of various girls' senior high schools in the country congregated in Accra on the 14th of July 2007 to translate into reality this concern.

The headmistresses since then, have been organizing yearly conferences dubbed summer camp to take stock and come up with strategic plans towards providing the desired quality and holistic education for girls in their formative year.

This year’s summer camp centered on the negative effect of information, communication technology, on society.

The headmistress of Ola Girls SHS, Benedicta Afesi, called on stakeholders in education to partner them to help sensitize the girls about the demerits of cyber fraud.

The National President of FOHGSHS, Betty Dzokoto, noted that cyber fraud has negatively affected student girls in no small way as over 70% of their time on computer is on either watching pornography or engaging in love relationship talks.

The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adwoa Ntoso, stressed that for society to benefit fully from ICT, there is urgent need for technicians to tackle the cyber menace in the system before it eats deep into the fabrics of young girls.

The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, urged the girls to make the best out of ICT for their future.

Prior to the main event, the Ho Ola Girls Senior High School Cadet Corps exhibited the talent acquired as future military women as they performed unique military drills to the admiration of all. New national executive members were inducted into office for a four year term.
