SAEMA blacklists contractors

Sekondi April.25 - GNA-The Shama-Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly (SAEMA) has blacklisted some civil and building contractors for failing to deliver on projects of the assembly and government funded project.

Mr Kwesi Nkrumah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, announced this at a meeting with members of the Civil Engineers and Building Contractors Association of Ghana at at Sekondi on Monday.

He said the move is to ensure that contractors execute contracts according to schedule and specification and do not compromise quality. Mr Nkrumah said any contractor found wanting by the assembly would be similarly be blacklisted to protect state fund from being wasted. He said the Procurement Act requires competitiveness and transparency in the award of contracts so contractors who want to win contracts should exhibit high performance in their work.

Nene Tetteh Kupualor Besse I, President of the Association, said there had been many instances when contractors have had to abandon projects or failed to perform because of resources and competences. He said the association has raised one point six billion cedis to support their members execute contracts in order to address this problem and the money would be advanced to contractors who form groups or consortium to undertake common projects.
