The Royal Bank (TRB) Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of the Royal Bank has inaugurated and handed over 42 hand-pumped boreholes out of 60 being provided to various communities in the country this year.

The remaining 18 would be drilled in the Upper East Region and survey works in the designated communities had been completed.

Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, Head of Operations, TRB Foundation, told the Media on Friday after the handing over of a borehole constructed for residents of Kosane, a farming community in the Dormaa Central Municipality of Brong-Ahafo Region.

Four other communities which also benefitted from the Foundation’s borehole package in the Brong-Ahafo were Kyeremekrom, also a farming community near Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central Municipality; Kwame Kobikrom and Oseikrom in the Asutifi North District; and Kwapong-Bronikrom in the Asunafo South District.

Dr. Baah-Nuakoh declined to disclose the total cost of the project because “that is not in line with the objectives of TRB Foundation”.

He said the provision of the water facility was to enhance the quality of health of the people in the beneficiary communities, since water is life and an indispensable commodity for the survival of man.

Dr. Baah-Nuakoh announced that TRB was now operating in only six Regions, but the Foundation was providing water facilities in the whole country, with the goal of providing 60 annually to needy communities.

Ms. Patience Lartey, the Foundation’s Administrator, added that the project had now covered seven Regions, comprising Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta, Central, Western, Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo.

The Chiefs of the beneficiary communities, including Nana Krobia Asante of Kosane and Nana Kwaku Duah of Kwame Kobikrom on behalf of their people, respectively expressed appreciation with joy that “they have been relieved of a big social burden” by TRB Foundation.

This was because lack of potable water all year round and the annual shortage, during the dry season had generally affected the health and well-being of the people.

Present to perform the handing over ceremonies were Reverend Foster Asogba-Cofie, Chair of the Foundation, Rev. Dr. Nii Amoo Darku, Foundation Member and Mr.Joseph Boateng, Public Relations Officer of the Bank.
