Rotary Club of Kumasi East presents cheque to ICCES

Baworo (Ash), Oct. 6, GNA - Rotary Club of Kumasi East on Monday presented a cheque for 2.7 million cedis to the Baworo Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills (ICCES) in the Ejisu-Juaben District to support its programmes.

Mr Ben Hagan, President of the Club, who made the presentation, said the money was solicited from a sister Rotary Club in the United Kingdom (UK) to encourage the centre to initiate income-generating projects.

Nana Anthony Boateng, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of ICCES, who received the cheque thanked the Club for the donation and gave the assurance that the money will be put to good use.

Nana Juaben Afrakoma, Queenmother of Baworo, asked students of the centre not to abandon the training they were receiving and flock to the cities so as to reduce the rural-urban drift.

She noted that if the youth had skills training which would enable them to set up their own businesses in their communities, there will not be the temptation to drift to the cities to search for non-existence white-collar jobs.

Nana Afrakoma commended the government for maintaining and strengthening the centres to enable the youth to acquire skills and said it would help to reduce youth unemployment.
