The Member of Parliament for Dormaa West and a member of Parliament’s Roads and Planning Committee, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, has stated that Ghana can significantly reduce road accidents if vehicle owners and drivers prioritise the use of quality spare parts and regular vehicle maintenance.

Oppong Asamoah cautioned motorists against using cheap, substandard components, noting that such practices have become a major cause of the country’s high road fatality rate.

“Regulators can set standards. Drivers must choose to meet them,” he said at the launch of Axabull’s new range of vehicle lubricants and car batteries in Accra on Friday, October 10, 2025, urging all stakeholders to prioritise safety over cost.

Citing data from the Ghana Road Safety Commission, speakers at the event revealed that nearly 2,000 people have died on Ghana’s roads between January and August this year, underscoring the urgency for coordinated action among government agencies, industry players and vehicle owners.

The company announced a two-year warranty on its products and revealed plans to establish a local manufacturing plant within six months to serve the Ghanaian and West African markets.

Axabull’s Ghana franchise partner, Adjei Kweku, emphasised that affordability must not come at the expense of safety.

“Axabull is in Ghana to give drivers access to affordable, quality products,” he said, adding that the company’s 24-month warranty demonstrates confidence in the reliability of its products.

“No one offers that warranty for a substandard product.”

From the company’s international management, Komal Kumar Shah, a representative from India, said Axabull’s planned local production facility will help reduce costs and improve availability.

“Local manufacturing will cut costs and improve availability,” he noted.

A Public Relations Officer at the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Kofi Yaboah Debrah, confirmed that Axabull’s products meet the Authority’s quality requirements. He called on importers and retailers to comply strictly with Ghana’s legal standards.

“Adherence to standards is essential for consumer protection and road safety,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, road-safety advocate Emmanuel Sosu announced that a national awareness campaign is in the pipeline to encourage motorists to maintain their vehicles properly and use only genuine parts.

Speakers at the launch collectively framed the issue as multi-layered, involving quality parts, regular maintenance, regulatory enforcement and responsible driving.
