Retired educationist honoured

Kotwia (Ash), Aug. 5, GNA- The Chiefs and people of Kotwia and Abodom in the Amansie East District, at the weekend, held a durbar in honour of Mr. Thomas Amo-Bediako, a retired educationist and his brother, Pastor Matthew Amo-Bediako of the Seventh day Adventist (SDA). The two were honoured for their immense contribution towards the development of the area and the nation at large. The occasion was also used by the people to raise funds to support the construction of additional classrooms for the local basic school and boreholes.

The two brothers received citations, a Kente cloth and stool each, which were presented to them by Nana Owusu Afriyie, Benkumhene of Kokofu on behalf of Barima Offe Okogyeasuo II, Paramount Chief of Kokofu Traditional Area.

Dr. Winfred Richard Anane, Minister of Transportation said in an address that the Bediako brothers needed to be recognised and honoured for their selfless devotion and commitment towards the development of the area and the nation. He noted that while T.A. was working on various aspects of education, his brother was also wining souls for Christ and helped in the provision of a hospital with qualified doctors for the people. Dr. Anane expressed satisfaction that the government had already honoured T.A. Bediako. He announced that government has awarded the Bekwai- Asiwa- Bomfa road awarded on contract to open up the area.

Nana Owusu Ansah, Odikro of Kotwia said Mr. T.A. served the nation in various capacities for 58 years, while Pastor M. A. who is now the Executive Secretary of the SDA worldwide has worked for 41 years. Mr. Richard Aboagye, Amansie East Municipal Chief Executive, expressed the hope that they would continue to do more to support the development of the area. Mr. T.A. Bediako thanked the people for the honour done them and his family and dedicated the award to people who had helped in diverse ways since his infancy to make him what he is now. He appealed to the Transportation Minister to do him a favour by ensuring that the three- kilometre road from Bekwai to Kotwia is tarred to facilitate the free movement especially patients who visit the local hospital.
