Restore Hohoe’s glory - Togbega Gabusu to Akufo-Addo

The Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area, Togbega Gabusu, has implored the Akufo-Addo-led-government to endeavour to restore Hohoe’s glory by developing the area.

According to him, events that emanated from Hohoe’s affiliation to the United Party in the first republic culminated into Hohoe losing its shine.

Speaking at gathering of Chiefs and people in the middle belt of the Volta Region in Hohoe, during the President’s tour of the region, Togbe Gabusu said the “Hohoe had suffered intense discrimination and humiliation during the first republic for being one of the citadels and strongholds for the United Party tradition in the [Volta] Region.”

“Some of these unmentionable events culminated into Hohoe losing its shine. Now is the time to bring back the shine and we count on you Mr President in this matter”, he stressed.

He further detailed that the sufferings of the people still linger on as the municipality is engulfed with challenges, including the scarcity of potable water in the dry season.

He, therefore, appealed for an extension of supply from the Kpando Todzi Water System to Hohoe and its environs, which he believes would curb potable water crisis in the municipality for the next 5 decades.

Togbega Gabusu also appealed for the completion of the Eastern Corridor Road which travels through Hohoe, and other deplorable road networks in the middle belt of the Volta Region.

“Hohoe-Jasikan Road is almost cut-off from southern Ghana due to its horrible nature. The road is killing our people every day through needless and unnecessary accidents. Our people are largely exasperated, incensed and apprehensive by governments’ promise and fail attitude towards this particular road. Please Mr President we are simply tired; kindly fix this road now.”

Togbega Gabusu applauded the President’s achievements over the 18 months period of his administration singling out the successful implementation of the Free SHS, which he said “brought great relief to citizens”, and the growth of the economy.

“All the very positive macroeconomic indices and indicators are there to show. What is left, however, Mr President is for us to feel these indicators in our pockets and on our dining tables”, he added.

He called for government’s support towards the success of a waste management project which has been initiated under a joint collaboration of the Hohoe, Kpando, Afadzato South, Jasikan, Biakoye and Kadjebi Districts under the one district, one factory policy.

The Gbi Paramount Chief who is an advocate for the territorial split of the Volta Region trumpeted the inclusion of the Hohoe Municipality in its entirety to the proposed Oti Region adding the region should not be divided on tribal lines.

“We have presented our petition on this matter to you [President Akufo-Addo] earlier but we want to use this occasion to drive home our request once again.”

President Akufo-Addo, however, rallied support for the recommendations by the Justice Stephen Brobbey Commission of Inquiry into the creation of new regions after a nationwide consultation.

He also promised to fix the Eastern Corridor Road and ensure enough potable water is supplied to the municipality.
