Residents of Sibiriso cry for development

Koforidua, March 2, GNA - Residents of Sibiriso in the Atiwa District, have expressed concern about the poor state of their town saying they had been left behind in terms of development. "Are we not part of Ghana? Our roads are more than death traps, we have not had light for the past two years and we do not have access to transportation."

"If we are not part of the country, the government should let us know" one of the residents said.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the youth said vehicles did not come to the town due to the poor nature of their road, adding that only one 207 bus comes there 93and it is even once in a while." They said they could not transport their foodstuffs to marketing centres for sale due to the poor road network. A woman said many pregnant women died because there was no car to send them to hospital in an emergency. "Because there is no clinic here we have to travel to Nkawkaw for treatment in a hospital." Mr Emmanuel Atta Twum, Atiwa District Chief Executive, said the World Bank had given money for the re-construction of the road and contractors had already been given the go-ahead. He said documents concerning the town's electrification had been pr= epared.
