Residents of Nsawam Adoagyiri in the Eastern region are finally getting water flowing in their taps after officials of the Ghana Water Company opened a tributary blocked by sand-winners.

You would recall a JOYNEWS investigative piece Wednesday on how the recent water shortage in Nsawam and other parts of the Eastern region were caused by activities of sand-winners.

JOYNEWS’ Latif Iddris who travelled to Kyekyewere found out, the Kuya River there is blocked and as such the Ghana Water Company is not getting enough water to treat distribution.

However, after taking prompt action, Eastern regional correspondent, Kofi Siaw said residents in some part of the area have access to water.

He said sand-winners blacked part of the Kuya River being used to pump water to the community which resulted in the acute water shortage.

Also, the District Chief Executives for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ben Ohene Ayeh said Ghana Water is also to supply about 400 to 500 thousand gallons of water a day to the community.

He bemoaned the activities of sand-winners especially on river banks which he says are drying up water bodies.

Hon. Ben Ohene Ayeh government is working assiduously to ensure at least 120 thousand gallons of water is supplied to bring some respite residents Nsawam Adoagyiri.
