A cross-section of residents in Jomoro have pleaded with President John Dramani Mahama to reconstruct their bad roads to save lives.

According to them, the roads from Samenye barrier to Half-Assini and from Effasu to New Town are in deplorable condition and require immediate attention from the government.

The residents appealed to GhanaWeb's Western Regional Correspondent, Daniel Kaku, in Parliament House shortly after the vetting of their Member of Parliament (MP), Dorcas Affo-Toffey, as Deputy Minister of Transport by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

In what could be described as mixed feelings, some of the residents were not happy that the mid-year budget statement to Parliament on road infrastructure did not capture the poor road network in the Jomoro Municipality.

Though they expressed sincere gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing the MP for the area, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, as the Deputy Minister for Transport, they were not happy that their roads, which have been in a bad state for some time now, were not captured in the budget by the Finance Minister.

The Samenye–Half-Assini–New Town roads have become a death trap, leading to accidents and needless deaths.

On Friday, July 25, 2025, Dorcas Affo-Toffey was vetted in Parliament House as the Deputy Minister for Transport.

Speaking to the media in Parliament House immediately after her vetting, some chiefs and queen mothers who came from Jomoro to support her thanked President John Dramani Mahama for honoring their daughter with such a prestigious position.

They expressed optimism that Dorcas Affo-Toffey would work tirelessly to bring honor to their constituency. They expressed confidence that the MP will deliver and not disappoint them.

According to them, the way Affo-Toffey answered questions posed to her during the vetting demonstrated that she is ready to serve the country.

They took the opportunity to pledge their support for Affo-Toffey and called on all Ghanaians to support her to succeed.

They also took the opportunity to appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to consider their constituency by reconstructing the deplorable Samenye barrier to the Half-Assini road to save lives.

The MCE for Jomoro, Benedict Boadi, could not hold back his joy as he thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence placed in his MP.

He pledged to support his MP to deliver.

On their part, the Jomoro NDC Constituency Secretary, Emmanuel Ndarko Benle, and the Constituency Youth Organizer, Ernest Anaman, congratulated Dorcas Affo-Toffey for her excellent delivery before the Appointments Committee of Parliament.

They also pledged to rally behind Dorcas Toffey to succeed in order to create more employment opportunities for the youth in the Jomoro Constituency.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who went through many political obstacles in her first term as Jomoro MP, gave thanks to Almighty God for honoring her. She thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in her. She also thanked her constituents for supporting her during her vetting.

“I am deeply grateful to my family, friends, and loved ones whose unwavering support made my vetting in Parliament as Deputy Minister for Transport a success. My heartfelt appreciation also goes to the good people of the Jomoro Constituency for their prayers and encouragement, and to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for the trust and confidence he has bestowed upon me.

“To all Ghanaians, I assure you of my utmost dedication and commitment to serve with integrity, diligence, and passion for the progress of our nation,” she pledged, promising to work tirelessly with the sector minister to reset the Transport Ministry to benefit all Ghanaians.

Dorcas Affo-Toffey has since been sworn in as the Deputy Minister of Transport in the coming days by President John Dramani Mahama.
