Rehabilitation of Roads start in Upper East

Rehabilitation of some roads in the Upper East Region has started and they include the 12km Bolgatanga /Bongo, 8.0km Winkogo/Tongo, and 3.0 km Navrongo/Tono roads and they are to be completed by 2013.

Mr. Victor Owusu, an Engineer of the Ghana Highways Authority, said over 300 drains are expected to be constructed with some of the roads redesigned to cater for increasing traffic.

Mr. Owusu said plans were also included to provide lay-byes for vehicles parking, safety fencing, line markings as measures to ease traffic and easy crossing for children.

He said GH¢34,000 had been earmarked for the project to pay compensation to those who might be affected.

Mr. Owusu revealed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga after a team of technical men from the GHA, the contractor, Messrs Myturn Limited and the Regional Engineer of Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) met at the various sites.

He said clearing works on all sites were in progress and a 200 meter drain on Winkongo/Tongo road was in progress.

Mr. Owusu said he was impressed about ongoing works and that the upgrading and expansion of the Winkongo /Tongo road would serve as an alternative road that would link long distance drivers to Bawku and Togo.

He thanked the Municipal and District Assemblies for their support and appealed to the contractors to engage labour from communities they worked in.
