Regard work as life-long profession - Teachers told

Abeadze Dominase (C/R), Sept 12, GNA - Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive (DCE), on Tuesday visited a number of schools in the District to welcome newly enrolled Primary Class one and Kindergarten pupils to school.

The government last year introduced the programme "My First Day at School" to introduce children into the School environment. Mr Quainoo-Arthur, accompanied by Ms Vivian Etroo, District Director of Education asked the pupils to study hard and to be punctual in school.

During their interaction with teachers, the DCE urged them to regard teaching as their "life-long profession" and not a part time job, which could be taken for granted.

The DCE noted that the conditions of service for teachers in public schools were better than those in private schools yet they produced better results in examinations. He appealed to teachers to regard the children in their care as "future leaders" whose destiny was in their hands and asked them to be dedicated.

Ms Etroo expressed concern about the poor results of schools in the District in the Basic Education Certificate Examination and appealed to teachers to work harder to improve the standard of education in the area.
