Recruit retired police officers to serve as informants

Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Daniel Otchere has appealed to the government to reconsider recruiting retired officers as community based informants to promote responsible citizenry and ensure safety in society.

He said retired officers had the skills and specialty to detect early warning signs in terms of crime and could serve as a budding area in promoting community policing.

Mr Otchere said this during the swearing of executives of the Western Regional branch of the National Association of Retired Police Officers for the 2014/2017 administration.

He appealed to the executives to faithfully perform their responsibilities and urged retired officers to join the Association.

ACP Takyi Poku, the Deputy Western Regional Police Commander, said the Regional Police Commander saw them as reservoir of knowledge and skills and should therefore have regular interaction with the command.
