Rainstorm kills one, injures four

Akwatia, April 2, GNA - One person died and four others were seriously injured when they were trapped by a falling tree during a rainstorm near Ekoso Obonoma in the West Akyem District of the Eastern Region.

The body of Sam Budu, aged about 30, had been deposited at the mortuary of the St. Dominic's Hospital at Akwatia awaiting autopsy, while the four injured persons are responding to treatment. The injured persons were Kwasi Wudoga, Yaw Wudoga, Togbenya and Ebenezer Darkwa.

Police Chief Inspector John Gyimah told the Ghana News Agency at Akwatia that at about 1630 hours last Monday, while the five persons were working on a farm at Obonoma, it began to rain and the group took shelter in a hut.

He said the windstorm was so severe that it uprooted a tree that fell on the hut, trapping the five persons, resulting in the death of Budu and serious injuries by the four others. 02 April 2, 06
