Rainstorm hits school and leaves one dead

Nkoranza (B/A), Sept. 26, GNA- A severe rainstorm hit the "All Power Preparatory School", a private School at Sessiman in Nkoranza on Thursday, killing one of the pupils and injuring others. The deceased, seven-year-old Cynthia Adwoa Baffoaa died shortly on arrival at the Nkoranza Saint Theresa's Catholic Hospital after a wall had collapsed on her.

The storm ripped off the roofing of the six-classroom building of the school, which later collapsed.

Property destroyed is estimated at several millions of cedis with more than 200 pupils displaced.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Kwame Amporfo-Twumasi and the District Director of Education Mr Jarvis R. Agyeman-Badu, visited the school to assess the damage.

The DCE consoled the parents of the affected pupils and commended the doctors and nurses as well as the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA) and the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) whose members voluntarily picked the injured to the hospital. Mr Agyeman-Badu, District Director of Education, announced that the displaced pupils would have to be enrolled in other schools to enable them to continue their studies. 26 Sept. 03
