Rainstorm hits Effiduase and Asokore

Effiduase (Ash), March 18, GNA-A severe rainstorm hit Effiduase and Asokore in the Sekyere East district on Thursday and ripped off the roofs of many buildings as well as rendering a number of people homeless.

Properties destroyed, including low tension poles, electrical appliances and some personal belongings were estimated at millions of cedis.

Mr. Philip Basoah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known when he led Mr. Emmanuel Asamoah Owusu-Ansah, Ashanti Regional Minister to inspect the affected areas at Effiduase and Asokore on Friday. The visit was also to console the affected people and to see how best they could be assisted.

He said other areas affected included the T.I.Ahmadiyya Secondary School Boys' Dormitory and Hospital at Asokore, Seventh-day Adventist Primary and Junior Secondary School, Presbyterian Primary School at Effiduase and Effiduase Zongo community. The residence of Nana Susubribi Krobea Asante, Paramount Chief of Asokore Traditional Area, Nana Adu Ameyaw II, Chief of Effiduase and Nana Konadu Yiadom, Queen of Effiduase were also affected by the rainstorm.

The Regional Minister expressed shock and urged the affected people to make efforts to rehabilitate their houses while the government would also mobilise resources to support them.

He appealed to the people to always engage the services of competent artisans to construct their buildings for them and plant more trees to serve as wind breaks. 18 March 07
