Rainstorm destroys about 130 houses in Kpando

Kpando, Nov. 17, GNA - A rainstorm that hit Kpando and its environs last Friday destroyed about 130 houses, including five schools. The schools were R.C Primary, Seventh Day Adventist Primary, Kpando Day Care Center and Delta Preparatory School.

The storm also destroyed the Electricity Company of Ghana's high tension cables plunging half of the district into darkness.

Mr Christian Kwasi Attor, Kpando District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), told the Ghana News Agency that the extent of damage was inconclusive as reports were still coming in from outlying communities.

He said about 150 bundles of roofing sheets were required to assist displaced families and institutions.

Mr Attor appealed to private and public institutions to come to the aid of the victims.

Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Kpando District Chief Executive, said the District Assembly and NADMO were providing temporary structures for the schools pending the repairs of the damaged structures.

He said relief packages were also being worked out for displaced victims.
