Rainstorm causes damages in two communities

Nkoranza (B/A) April 24 GNA - A severe rainstorm has hit Mpem and Asempanaye in Nkoranza district and ripped the roofs of about 15 buildings.

More than 200 people have been displaced. Mr. Peter Baffoe-Bediako, Assembly Member for Asuosu-Mpem-Asempanaye-Jerusalem told Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkoranza that 10 of the buildings were at Mpem and five at Asempanaye. He said parts of the buildings were destroyed and the victims would find it quite difficult to rehabilitate them, in view of the current high cost of building materials.

The displaced victims at Mpem are putting up in the classrooms of the local primary school, while those at Asempanaye are taking shelter at the premises of the Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Baffoe-Bediako, announced that the house of Odikro of Mpem, Nana Kwasi Kontor IV, was among the affected buildings. He appealed to the District Assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation to visit the communities and arrange for some relief packages for the victims.
