Queen-mother of Akim Aboabo allegedly assaults Chief

The Akim Oda District Police Command has issued a warning to the two factions in the Aboabo chieftaincy dispute to resolve the matter through the Akim Kotoku Traditional Council or any other appropriate quarters rather than through the Police Administration.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Issah Mohammed Cantona, District Police Commander, gave the warning at the Akim Aboabo chief's palace, following an alleged attack on the palace by a rival faction opposed to the chief.

Nana Owusuaa Akoto III, Queenmother of Akim Aboabo near Akim Oda is alleged to have invaded the Akim Aboabo palace with members of her faction in a chieftaincy dispute and assaulted the chief of the town, Nana Ampomah Kubrah Yeboah III, during the celebration of Akwasidae last Sunday, August 19, 2012. It is worth noting that since the dispute started almost a year now, the Queen-mother had ceased going to the palace.

Recounting the event in the presence of the Police and the media at the palace, Nana Yeboah III said that while he was seated on the throne at about 0600 hours for the celebration, the Queen-mother and her daughter called Oburuwaa suddenly attacked him and attempted to strip him naked.

He said he struggled with them till his bodyguards arrived at the scene to disperse them. The Kingmakers at Aboabo, namely Kontihene, Nana Adomako Ankomah and the Gyasehene, Nana Oduro Twumasi, reported the matter to the Police.

In his reaction, DSP Cantona reminded the feuding factions of the six-month-bond imposed on them to keep the peace till the resolution of the dispute.

The Police, therefore ordered the suspension of the celebration and appealed to the people to retreat to their homes and to keep the peace. No arrest was made.
