Quantity surveyors urged to upgrade skills

Mrs Rosemargaret Esubonteng, President Ghana Institute of Surveyors, has appealed to members to upgrade their skills in order to perform more effectively to earn the trust of clients.

She urged them to take advantage of technological advancements emerging in the industry, to meet the needs of customers.

Mrs Esubonteng, who was speaking during a meeting with the members, urged them to work hand–in-hand with the Institution to enable the group to achieve its main mandate of championing the interest of quantity surveyors.

She pledged that the Institute would formulate programmes to help improve on the professionalism of members.

“We are also going to come out with programmes which would be online so that members everywhere would be able to take part”, Mrs Esubonteng said.

She said the Institution will periodically hold outreach programmes to brief them on the importance of belonging to the Institution.

Mrs Esubonteng, who is the first female President of the Institution, said some surveyors refuse to join the Institution after schools because they were not conversant with the advantages of being members.

She cited poor remuneration of surveyors as one of the main challenges faced by members, and said that a new scale of fees was being debated upon by the Governing Council of the Institution.

In an open forum, the members called for more training materials and internship placement for quantity surveying students.
