Pupils study in palm leaves classrooms

Mr John Lamtey, Assemblyman for the area, noted the structure is not suitable for teaching and learning, and for that matter, the pupils do not take interest in learning.

He made this known when the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sunyani West, Madam Agnes Kuma, went on a familiarization tour to some communities to enquire on first hand, the developmental needs of the people.

Mr Lamtey noted that the pupils use benches as study desk, and have to end classes whenever the sun scorches too high or it rains.

He enumerated some of the challenges of the community as lack of a health facility, electricity and portable water.

He appealed to the district assembly to provide the community with these social amenities.

The situation was not different when the DCE visited Baashed, Mbaanpehia, Nkranketewa, Koduakrom, kwabena Kuma and Addae Boreso, which are all communities in the district.

At Addae Boreso, the community requested for the provision of house-hold toilets, indicating that pit latrines that had scattered in the community was not hygienic, and posesd a danger to their health.

The inhabitants of Koduakrom also appealed to the Assembly to provide educational scholarships to brilliant but needy Junior High School (JHS) graduates who have not been able to further their studies due to financial constraints.

At Baashed, Nkranketewa and Kwabena Kuma, which are predominantly cocoa farming communities, the people requested for cocoa spraying gangs in the communities to aid in the spraying of their cocoa farms.

Madam Kuma commended the various communities for their efforts towards development, and urged them not to relent on their efforts, but work harder for a better Ghana.

She advised them to make communal labour a common practice, and desist from bush-burning during this season, to avoid losing lives and properties.
