Pupils in Krachi Nchumuru sit on bare floor, under thatched structures to write final exams

Despite the constant attempts by various governments to improve the way of life of citizens in the country, there is still an evidently wide developmental divide between rural and urban areas in the country.

Most urban schools may lack basic amenities to facilitate teaching and learning in particularly basic schools but the situation is much worse in some rural schools and this is seen in stories that emerge from time to time about devastating situations under which pupils have to study.

It’s disheartening, the miserable conditions under which pupils of the Boafri D/A primary school in the Krachi Nchumuru district of the Volta Region have to study and write their terminal examinations.

A post on Facebook by a concerned citizen shows pupils of the school under thatched structures supported by bamboo, carefully spaced out, seated on the uncemented floor (in sand) and writing their exams.

Other classes in the same school though are in block structures, barely have desks and so have to bend over their examination papers to write.

As sad as it is, this won’t be the first time Ghanaians may be hearing of such reports. There have been other cases where students have had to deal similar or worse situations.
