Nine schools from Tamale Municipal competed in the event, which started in 2006. The participating schools engaged in academic policy competitions of ideas at each region.

She said Project Citizen could be a special way of building and developing good future leaders with innovative ideas for the country saying "such ideas could be tapped for the promotion of the country's development agenda". Mrs Kumah urged more students to participate in future competitions of the Project Citizen to broaden their scope and horizon to make them well informed adding that education is not all about classroom work but all that help to mould a competent individual. The Northern Regional Director for NCCE Mr. Haruna Husheini Sulemana said NCCE would do its best despite constrains to educate citizens about their civic rights and responsibilities to ensure a coherent national building.
