Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament for Kwadaso and former Deputy Education Minister, has strongly criticized President Mahama's administration for the recent dismissals of public sector workers, calling the move "troubling and unfortunate."

In a statement issued on February 17, 2025, Prof. Nyarko accused the President of betraying his campaign promises of job creation and undermining the constitution.

"President Mahama, throughout the electioneering campaign, promised to create jobs for the citizenry, especially the youth. He did not promise dismissals," Prof. Nyarko stated.

He further argued that the current dismissals contradict the administration's duty to ensure the welfare and well-being of its citizens.

The MP highlighted job creation initiatives undertaken by the previous administration, including NABCO, the creation of new districts and regions, the Ghana Card project, the National Ambulance Service, the medical drone delivery system, the One District One Factory program, and the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

He claimed these initiatives significantly contributed to reducing unemployment.

Prof. Nyarko questioned the motivation behind the dismissals, suggesting they might be driven by political machinations aimed at replacing existing workers with party loyalists.

He also raised concerns about the constitutionality of the action, citing Article 36(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the state to secure maximum welfare and suitable employment for its citizens.

"Mr. President, what you have done is the direct opposite of what the above constitutional provision stipulates. Your action is an affront to the constitution," Prof. Nyarko asserted.

He concluded by urging President Mahama to rescind his decision.

"Rescind your decision, halt the wrongful and illegal dismissals, and allow your own people, who voted you into power, to return to work. Ghana deserves better," he added.
