Private schools advised to charge approved fees

Kumasi, Aug 11, GNA - An educationist has appealed to proprietors of private schools to adhere strictly to fees that have been approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES). Mr Kofi Britwum, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said private schools fall under the jurisdiction and supervision of the GES and are obliged to conform to GES rules and regulations. Mr Britwum gave the advice in an address read for him at the First Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Petra International School at Bremang, Kumasi on Sunday.

He said approved fees from the GES were arrived at after "critical analysis of the situation on the ground and consideration of various issues affecting smooth management of the schools and should therefore, be accepted and used by all schools".

Mr Britwum said some proprietors operate their schools without registering them and appealed to offenders to register their schools to avoid embarrassment. Madam Comfort Temmah, Proprietor of the Petra International School, said the school scored 100 percent passes with 12 distinctions for the 2003 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
