Priest calls for control of sexual appealing video clips on TV

Koforidua, Dec. 22, GNA- The leader of the Light of Life Chapel, a Christian Church based in Koforidua, had called for the regulation of telecasting of sexually arousing video musical clips on the television in the country. He explained that, if the campaign for the youth to abstain from pre-marital sex as a way of controlling of the spread of the HIV/AIDS is to succeed, then there would be the need to control the open telecasting of films and musical video clips that could arouse the sexual behaviours of the youth.

Rev. Michael Osei Bonsu was speaking at a talk on HIV/AIDS organized by the Eastern Regional AIDS Committee for members of the church as part of activities to mark the celebration of the World AIDS Day in the region. He said even when one carefully listen to the lyrics of most of the music being promoted on the airwaves recently, they portray enjoyment of sex, thereby encouraging the youth to engage in premarital sex. He called on the Ghana Musicians Union and the Centre for National Culture to be interested in the relationship between the lyrics of the songs, youth involvement in sex and the spread of the HIV/AIDS in the country.

Ms. Jane Kwapong, a member of the Regional AIDS Committee called on leaders of religious organizations to take active role in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country. She explained that if the trend at which the disease was spreading was allowed to continue, there could be a time when there would be churches and mosques without people to be preached to. Ms. Kwapong urged parents to be responsible and avoid the situation where they go to bed and ask their children to close the door when they the children were ready to sleep. She urged people with relatives suffering from the disease to show love and compassion towards them and encourage them to attend hospital to get the necessary support that would enable them to prolong their lives.
