Presidential candidates storm Tamale for IEA debate

With two days to the Presidential Debate event scheduled for Tamale, Presidential Candidates and their aides have started arriving in the Tamale Metropolis ahead of the all-important encounter.

Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo was first to step foot into Tamale and was met with great pageantry by his supporters on Saturday evening.

Two people reportedly died while several others sustained various degrees of injury following a motor riding display during the arrival of the NPP’s flagbearer.

The accident occurred at Datoyili on the Tamale-Kumasi road. The deceased who were Muslims have since been buried while the injured are responding to treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

But the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Asiedu Nketia, has said God in his own wisdom has shifted political power to the North of the country to grant equity to the people of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch of three pro-NDC youth groups for John Mahama 2012 in Tamale after his arrival, Asiedu Nketia popularly called General Mosquito said the Constitution of the republic of Ghana in its wisdom recognized equitable geographical distribution of leadership but the Country has failed achieve so until now.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia observed that this year’s election is neither about policies nor personalities but a shift of power from the South to the North to enable people of the North themselves to dictate the pace of development in the area.

The NDC General Secretary commended the youth for showing keen interest in the Mahama campaign.

Northern Regional Minister Moses Bukari Mabingba appealed to NDC supporters to vote massively for the President Mahama and all the NDC MP’s to enable them continue with the Better Ghana Agenda, saying, “If you have not benefited from anything at all, as for the peace, it shore has come in abundance.”

Prior to the inauguration, the three groups, ‘John for 2012 elections’, ‘Girls Girls for John Mahama’ and ‘Zongo Youth for John Mahama’ went on a float through principal streets of the Tamale Metropolis chanting NDC slogans and songs amidst brand band music and the hoots of screeching motorbike and cars. Chief Organizer of the Youth for John Mahama 2012, Cornelia Dasaah said the group has been launched to send the good works and messages of President John Mahama to the hinterlands.

Meanwhile, President Mahama is expected in Tamale Monday afternoon even though the northern region is already inundated by the heavy presents of NDC functionaries.
