President Mills was a statesman - Bishop Lodonu

Right Reverend Francis Anani Lodonu, Catholic Bishop of Ho on Tuesday described the late President John Evans Atta Mills as a statesman and not a politician.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview on the death of President Mills, he said President Mills was always thinking and talking about peace, the welfare and future of the citizenry and not elections.

“This is the kind of leaders we need. True statesmen and not politicians who struggle for power to enrich themselves and forget about the people,” Bishop Lodonu said.

“Our politicians must not be narrow minded. They must be loving, caring and peaceful,” he said.

Bishop Lodonu called for a stop to the “violent struggle” for power by politicians in the country because that kind of “political turmoil can kill anyone.” He said though news of President Mills’ death was sad, it should mark a new beginning for decent political campaigns in the country.**
